Kwara Lawmaker Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi Congratulates Dr. Remi Oni on Chieftaincy Title Okanlomo of Offaland
The Honourable Member representing Ojomu-Balogun Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly and Chairman, House Committee on Health and Nutrition, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi, has congratulated Chief Dr. Oluremi Oyindasola Oni on his investiture as the Okanlomo of Offa, conferred by His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau Mohammed Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, Ajagungbade I the Olofa of Offa, and the Olofa-in-Council.
The colourful chieftaincy ceremony took place at the Olofa’s Palace on Saturday, May 3, 2025, followed by a grand reception at Adesoye College Hall, Offa.
The event witnessed an impressive turnout of dignitaries, community leaders, family members, and well-wishers who came together to honour Dr. Oni and his family.
Chief Dr. Remi Oni, a seasoned banking executive and former Chairman of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), has had an illustrious career in the Nigerian financial services sector.
He previously served as Executive Director, Corporate & Institutional Banking for Nigeria and West Africa at Standard Chartered Bank, and as Executive Director, Corporate Banking at First Bank Nigeria Limited. Dr. Oni is also a respected member of the Offa Metropolitan Club.
In his congratulatory message, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi also celebrated what he described as a “triple honour” for the Oni family.
Alongside Dr. Remi Oni, his mother, Mama Esther Bolaji Oni, and his wife, Mrs. Bolanle Titilayo Oni, were honoured with the titles of Iya Okanlomo of Offa and Yeye Okanlomo of Offa, respectively.
Ogunniyi commended the Olofa of Offa and the Olofa-in-Council for recognising the contributions of the Oni family to the community, describing the event as a “rare and remarkable” gesture of collective honour.
The grand celebration drew an array of prominent personalities from various spheres of national life. Among those in attendance were Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice; Chief R.A. Lawal-Rabana (SAN); and Aare Dr. Waheed Olagunju, alongside other influential figures such as Alhaji Razak Shittu; Alhaji and Hajia Demola Balogun; Alhaji Lanre Mustapha Olowogada; and Chief Dr. Tunde Lawal.
Also present to grace the occasion were Aremo and Yeye Aremo Soji Olagunju; Justice Lekan Adegbite; Chief Segun Olawoyin; Prof. Waheed Olatinwo; Arc. Mobolaji Adeniyi; Barr. Oladipo Tolani (SAN); Arc. and Mrs. Fatai Olatinwo; Chief Yinka Olafimihan; Otunba Tayo and Mrs. Bukola Popoola; Chief Dr. Lanre Folorunsho; and Mr. Toro Adesiyun, among many other dignitaries from the business, legal, academic, and traditional institutions.
In addition, the event was further dignified by the presence of notable royal fathers including Oba Sharafadeen Adeniyi Buhari, the Onijagbo of Ijagbo; Oba Kayode Afolabi, the Alapomu of Apomu; and Oba Moshood Olaleke, the Afaaji of Faaji, all of whom joined in honouring the Oni family for their outstanding reputation and contributions.
The celebratory atmosphere, characterised by goodwill, culture, and unity, was a true reflection of the immense respect Chief Dr. Remi Oni and his family command within and beyond the Offa community.
